Vacation: Igloo Village, Switzerland

Igloo Village

This is the second article I’ve written about ice hotels.  I just find them fascinating!  This one is located in the ski area above the resort of Scuol, Switzerland.  They are open for business from Christmas to roughly the end of April and rebuild the entire place from scratch each year.  The igloo village is made completely of ice and snow and they provide down-filled sleeping bags to keep you warm while you sleep.

This is the type of place for the adventurer, tired of the normal accommodations.  The facility doesn’t provide much in the way of food since there is no electricity to cook with.  However, they are able to provide steaming fondue for dinner as well as wine.  The village has dormitory rooms with artwork sketched into the walls, a kitchen, and a dining dome with seating for 40 people.  They even have a sauna outside!  This is your only option to get clean as there are no showers.

There are actually several other locations around Switzerland as well.  There are options for romantic igloos for couples, private jacuzzi, private whirlpool, private bathroom, night snow-shoe walks, igloo building activities, snow sculpting, or use of facility to get married!  If you are in the area, you have got to check this place out!
