Vacation: Cedar Point, Sandusky OH

Cedar Point

Indicates vacations/activities I've actually done myself

Are you a roller coaster fanatic? Then, you have got to check out this park! Located in Sandusky, Ohio, Cedar Point (”America’s Roller Coast”) is one of the best roller coaster parks in the world. They constantly break world records for their coasters. It is positioned in a great spot – on a peninsula surrounded by water. You would think this limits what they can do, but they make fantastic use of the space and are constantly reinventing the park and building new coasters. I have been here many times in my life and I absolutely love it!

This is the second oldest amusement park in North America (1870). There is nothing left around from that time period, but they do still have a really old roller coaster in the park called “Blue Streak” – 45 years old now! They have tons of things to do: coasters, thrill rides, water rides, carousels, bumper cars, Soak City (water park), Challenge Park (go-karts, mini golf, etc), children’s rides, shows, and much more! They also have 2 marinas and several hotels on the premises. They normally have laser light shows at night and are just launching “Starlight Experience” which takes this a step further to include floats and LED lights themed to the four seasons. If you can’t find something to do here, then you won’t find it anywhere else.

Here are just some of the records that this park has held at one time or another:

  • Currently holds record for the most roller coasters
  • “Top Thrill Dragster” is the world’s second tallest and second fastest coaster
  • The only park with four (4) coasters taller than 200 feet
  • 1989 – the “Magnum XL-200″ opened which broke world height and speed records
  • 1991 – The “Mean Streak” opened which was the fastest and tallest wooden coaster in the world
  • 1996 – The “Mantis” opened which was the fastest and tallest stand up coaster in the world
  • 2000 – The “Millennium Force” opened which was the fastest and tallest complete circuit coaster in the world
  • 2002 – The “Wicked Twister” opened which is still the tallest and fastest Inverted coaster in the World.
  • 2008 – more rides (coasters plus others) than any other park

Have I said this park is great?! My favorite rides are the “Raptor”, “Millennium Force”, “Chaos”, “Top Thrill Dragster” and the “Wicked Twister”. And, of course, the “Gemini” is fun also. This is an older wooden ride in the park and features two coasters racing next to each other. You can’t go to Cedar Point and not ride this at least once. You can easily spend an entire weekend at this park and still not get to everything. If you like amusement parks, then why not make a vacation out of it and visit the world’s best?
